Hayali Suat Veral and Turkey’s first female shadow play artist Merve İlken have staged the traditional Turkish shadow play Karagöz and Hacivat in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.

Speaking ahead of the play hosted by Yunus Emre Institute on June 26, 2019, Hayali Suat Veral indicated he has been transferring his 40 years of experience to young artists and noted that they try to promote Turkish culture with the plays they organize in many cities around the world.

Merve İlken stated that she set off with the intention of guiding girls, women and mothers in Turkey and around the world through art and she was particularly happy to see the interest shown to the shadow play in Georgia.

Following the show that garnered the interest of the audience, especially the kids, a workshop was held to demonstrate how the characters used in the shadow play were produced.

The Karagöz shadow play and workshop will be staged during the 2nd International Traditional Handicrafts Workshop Festival, which will also showcase marbling workshops, between June 28 and 30.
